History of NCA
- The National Cricket Academy (NCA), established by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2000, is the premier institution for developing cricketing talent in India. Located initially at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, the NCA was created to provide young cricketers with world-class training facilities and a structured, professional environment.
- Over the years, the academy has expanded its infrastructure to include state-of-the-art training grounds, indoor practice areas, fitness centers, medical and rehabilitation facilities, and comfortable accommodations.

How Players Reach the National Cricket Academy
Although every player’s journey is unique, most successful cricketers progress through a structured pathway.
Step 1 – Learn the Fundamentals
Players usually begin by learning cricket at a local academy, school, or club where they build strong batting, bowling, fielding, wicket-keeping, and fitness fundamentals.
Step 2 – Represent School or Club Teams
The next stage involves playing competitive cricket for schools, colleges, clubs, or local leagues to gain match experience.
Step 3 – District Cricket
Talented players participate in district-level tournaments organised through recognised cricket associations. Strong performances at this level help players move toward state selection.
Step 4 – State Cricket
State Cricket Associations conduct age-group competitions such as Under-14, Under-16, Under-19, Under-23, and senior domestic cricket. Players who consistently perform well receive greater exposure.
Step 5 – Domestic Performance
Outstanding performances in BCCI-recognised domestic tournaments increase the chances of being identified by selectors and high-performance programs.
Step 6 – National Cricket Academy Camps
Players identified by the BCCI through its official pathways may be invited to attend specialised camps at the National Cricket Academy for advanced coaching, fitness evaluation, rehabilitation, or player development.
